Everyone on board is encouraged to take a full and active part in the challenge of life at sea, working alongside the professional crew to run and sail the vessel. This creates an ideal opportunity for participants to become a team whilst developing as individuals. The voyages create enormous benefits, in particular with regard to a sense of achievement, self-confidence, and ability to face challenges.
“The experience created many new challenges. Every day saw increased confidence as we began to shoulder the responsibility of manning the boat. It was heart warming to watch young people begin to develop a sense of worth as they confronted and mastered allocated tasks. The smiles conveyed their deep sense of achievement”

The Trust aims to provide this experience to as many young and disadvantaged people as possible and operates a Bursary Scheme to provide financial assistance to those who would otherwise be unable to take part in a voyage. The LBCC is a major supporter of this Bursary Scheme and over the past five years, the annual event has provided funding assistance to over 900 young people from a variety of youth groups around the country, enabling them to take part in a voyage of a lifetime.
Our flagship, Queen Galadriel also benefited from the generosity of the LBCC when she underwent a recent major refit. Thanks to this support the vessel is now absolutely ideal for her role in which she can continue indefinitely.
The Cirdan Sailing Trust is enormously grateful to the Little Britain Challenge Company for their continued and generous support which has made such a difference to the lives of so many.
